Soccer Moms: Why a Mini-Van?

Soccer moms are synonymous with mini-vans. Why minivans you may ask? The minivan is a modern version of a station wagon which allows you as a soccer mom to put 1, 2, or a multitude of children into vehicles safely and at the same time allow for enough room for the children so they will not be overcrowded and the mother can store other materials that might be needed for the outing.

With the minivan there is also the second consideration of fuel economy and cost efficiency. A minivan allows the soccer mom to go to and from the practice or soccer field in safety and comfort. The idea that a minivan is a transportation vehicle for a soccer mom has been portrayed on movies, television series, and other venues. They are an almost comic stereotype towards the lifestyle of a professional mother and her ambition to be a supportive mother.

The soccer mom stereotype he has carried over to the television sitcom Desperate Housewives. If the character has children in this, there is usually an SUV or minivan in the background. Here the minivan is portrayed as a status symbol of living in a professional neighborhood and at the same time doing the same chores and the normal things that other parents do in less refined dwellings. So whether the minivan is a status symbol or a vehicle of necessity, it has become and probably will remain a standard for mothers, especially for mothers with children who play in sports.
