Soccer Moms: Carrying Their Mini-Warriors to the Battlefield

Soccer moms, who are these amazing, driven, and sometime fanatic women? These are the diehard fans of their children who play amateur soccer and these populations of moms have become an icon in American society. Soccer moms are on the sidelines screaming for their kid and most demonstrate their disagreement to the unsavory outcome of a game in a way quite differently than men.

Men will yell aggressively at the players, the ref, or the coaches, but soccer moms handle the game quite differently. Arriving in a squadron of mini-vans and SUVS, these tenacious women begin unloading healthy snacks and juice boxes from the back of their vehicle and prepare to be the supportive, dedicated parent that they have trained themselves to be.

As they bring their snacks, folding chairs, and even a few adult beverages for their friends, these hyper-thumped cheerleaders are ready for the game. They divide themselves on either side of the field. The understanding of the game is not important to these modern day sirens of good cheer, but just that their kids have a good time. Victory is a plus, but a game without tears, bad attitudes and injury is more important to these Vicariates of the field. Once the game is over, there is juice and snacks for everyone. They eye each other and look at each other’s contribution to the feast, making sure the kids with peanut butter allergies don’t eat the cookies and the kids with ADHD keep their sugar in check.
