The Snack Habit for Young Soccer Plays
Most soccer moms can remember that the only thing they wanted after a sporting event was a jug of cold water. Water is not cool today and will not suffice with the population of young people who are playing sports like soccer. They expect a treat or something sweet during half time or after the game. If the soccer moms are not careful, the kids will eat sweets, doughnuts, cookies, and ice cream and then just wash it down with a soda.
Soccer moms may think they are providing healthy snacks for their young players, but a hostess cup cape or a Rice Krispie Treat is just sugar coated carbohydrates. Its up to you as the parent or soccer mom to provide for the game so don’t let your youngster manipulate you into bringing unhealthy snacks.
In today’s society, the non-healthy thinking parent will provide a homemade treat like a cookie or brownies. When a kid has to choose from a variety of treats, even though they know better, they will choose the sweetest one so they will not be embarrassed in front of their friends for choosing a carrot stick or a yogurt. The answer is to not provide the choice. It has even been suggested that providing a kid with a snack for participating in a sporting event teaches kids that they have to be rewarded for exercising. If this is the case, give Pavlov’s dog a healthy bone instead of a sweet snack. We are the guardians of our children’s health and it is wise to set the example but setting the table with the food we choose, not the food they want.
